KENYA NATIONAL BUREAU POF STATISTICS MEETING WITH HUGAFO-K STEERING COMMITEE

Members of the Hunters and gatherers communities made the following requests to KNBS:

Review KNBS of ethnic code before the next consensus and in consultation with the concerned communities.

Pilot data survey of these communities in Kenya

Joint Task Force for inclusion of HG communities in the next census. Some names referred to HG are derogatory.

• Aweer- Carcas eaters

• Wasanye- the group

• Boni-means Primitive.

• Walanguro-Hedgehog eaters

• Dorobo-A poor people

• Dasanach-Shangila- Jangile

Collaboration in data collection. Sensitize communities and participate in mapping together with KNBS officials.

Use the forum to sensitize the specific communities on their codes and tribal identification.

Commitment from KNBS

Are happy to meet and support the HG to ensure that there are no major challenges in the next census.

Check with NGEC and clear with them. They will support what NGEC tells them. Will support with data for advocacy with policy makers.
